欧洲一体化之路:比利时大使在中联部的深度分享 Presentation on European Integration at IDCPC
On Friday 20 March, Ambassador of Belgium to China Bruno Angelet had the honor of giving a lecture at the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) on the history of European integration. The Ambassador was welcomed by Wang Xueyong, Director General of the Bureau for Western European Affairs.
Ambassador Angelet presented to cadres from different regional bureaus of the IDCPC an overview of how Europe developed into what it is today. To do so, he traced the origins of Europe all the way back to Ancient Greece and mythology and highlighted some of the most important events and developments since then. He explained the historic role and impact of the Roman Empire, demonstrated early signs of political and cultural unity on the European continent and described the formation of the European Idea and how it lay the foundation for the European Union today. He particularly emphasized the importance of strong supranational institutions which put smaller member states on equal footing with larger ones. Europeans, he concluded, were multilateral people by DNA. After his presentation, the Ambassador answered questions from the audience and openly exchanged about Belgium-China relations, European expansion and transatlantic relations.
Following the seminar, ambassador Angelet had a lunch meeting with vice minister Ma Hui of IDCPC, during which they discussed bilateral, European and global affairs.
